LUCIANO SANTANA MARTEL APPOINTED FIRST TEAM HEAD COACH

Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Luciano Santana Martel as our new First Team Head Coach, with immediate effect.

Luciano joins the Club on an initial three-year contract, with an option for a further two years, reflecting both his and the Club’s commitment to building something for the long term.

A UEFA Pro Licence coach, Luciano brings extensive international experience to Birżebbuġa, having worked across Spain, China, Thailand and Iran, as well as within international football.

His career has included experience with Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League, the Thailand U23 national team and the Chinese national-team structure, together with coaching and development roles within Spanish football.

Luciano has also worked in UEFA coach education with the Spanish Football Federation and has been involved in football development programmes connected with LaLiga, while his wider professional development has included exposure to the football environment and methodologies associated with Real Madrid.

His appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Club.

Following a difficult start to the season and four consecutive competitive defeats, the Club recognised that change was necessary. However, this appointment is about considerably more than our immediate results.

We are building a football club with clear standards, a recognisable footballing identity and a culture capable of delivering sustainable success.

Luciano has been appointed with a clear mandate: restore confidence and competitiveness to the First Team, raise standards throughout the football environment and build a team capable of representing the ambition of Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s FC.

The Club will now work closely with Luciano to finalise the structure of the First Team technical and performance staff, with further announcements to follow.

An official press conference will take place between 16 and 21 September, where Luciano will be formally presented and supporters and media will hear more about his footballing philosophy and the Club’s plans for the future.

The confirmed date and arrangements will be announced shortly.
